The cornbread tradition in the village of São Lourenço da Montaria is an old tradition which reaches as far as the 16th century.
This program starts with a visit to Lisbon house - a farm in Montaria. In the Lisbon house you have the unique chance to learn how to make cornbread but also you have the opportunity to be able to make cornbread on your own!
The finishing process of making cornbread occurs in the burning hot wood-fired oven. You will be able to deposit the bread inside the oven and close its door with clay which will keep the right temperature in order to bake the bread. While the bread gets ready in the oven, we will go for a short walk through terraced fields and water pipes until we reach the local watermills. Once we arrive, we will visit a watermill which is still working today and where you will learn about the local traditions. After that, we will return to the farm to try our freshly baked hot cornbread with honey from Serra D´Arga accompanied by other local products.
